Cimarron Mesa Ranch - Catron County New Mexico
General: The Cimarron Mesa Ranch is located in west-central New Mexico, only 10 miles east of the Arizona State line and 22 miles west of the community of Quemado. U.S. Highway 60 bisects this area and forms approximately 6 miles of the southern boundary of the ranch.
Characteristic of this region is the extremely beautiful scenery offering diversity and colorful landscapes. Scattered mesas and mountain ranges dot the horizon with intermingled grassy plains, draws, and tree areas. Wildlife in significant numbers are found in the area and include Elk, Mule Deer, Antelope, coyotes, and numerous species of birds, along with an occasional mountain lion or bear. The ranch receives one elk and one antelope permit per year. These can be used by the owner or can be sold. Because amny large elk are found in these region, the demand for elk permits is very high.
The region's scenic appeal has changed the use of some lands in recent years from traditional cattle grazing. Land status in this region is mostly public lands with only small, scattered pieces of deeded land. This limiting factor and the senic appeal and desire for rural lands have brought a number of developments to this region. Most of the buyers are seeking a second home location or a long term investment for future use and/or appreciation. Cimarron Mesa Ranch is made up of 6003.74 acres, of which 5,675.00 acres is federal land. Only 328.74 acres is deeded land. The federal land is administered by the Bureau of Land Management and they permit the grazing of cattle on the ranch.
